3 Ways We Run a More Sustainable Floral Business in Seattle

As a wedding florist, I’m passionate about creating beautiful, timeless floral designs while minimizing adverse effects on the environment. Weddings are notoriously wasteful and I strive to reduce it when providing floral design services. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in the seasonal flowers we source, the eco-friendly mechanics we utilize, and our diligent composting practices.

At our Seattle floral studio, sustainability is more than just a buzzword. We strive to make reduce negative impacts on the environment and support our local community with every event we design.

Using Local, Seasonal Flowers

We believe that locally-sourced, seasonal flowers are the most sustainable way to create beautiful and unique floral arrangements. We strive to reduce our carbon footprint by using blooms that are in-season and grown in our own backyard. (Figuratively speaking, since we don’t have a backyard. :)) Not only are they fresher and longer lasting, but they also require fewer resources to transport and keep alive.

We are also passionate about supporting local flower farmers and reducing our environmental impact. By sourcing locally, we are able to purchase blooms that have been grown in a sustainable and ethical manner. This allows us to use flowers that are healthier, more vibrant, and longer-lasting than those that have been shipped in from other parts of the world. Plus, it helps to support our local economy and keep the money we spend within our community.

While we absolutely love using local and seasonal flowers, we do not use exclusively US grown flowers. Sometimes specific designs and seasonal constraints call for importing flowers. We strive for progress not perfection and want to be transparent about our flower sourcing.

Composting green waste

As a Seattle wedding florist, we are committed to running our business in an environmentally conscious way. One of the ways we are doing this is by composting all of our green waste. We separate our green waste from other waste and have it professionally composted at a local composting facility. This helps reduce our carbon footprint and ensures that our waste is not contributing to the landfill.

We believe that sustainable practices are essential for running an ethical business, which is why we are dedicated to composting green waste. This helps us reduce our environmental impact and also allows us to provide our clients with a more sustainable service.

Avoiding flower foam

We strive to be as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible. We understand that the decisions we make during the floral design process can have a lasting impact on the environment. That's why we are committed to avoiding floral foam in all of our arrangements.

Floral foam is a traditional tool used by florists, but it is not sustainable. It is made from a petroleum-based plastic that is non-biodegradable and pollutes our waterways. We believe in taking a more conscious approach to our floral designs, so we use alternative methods to hold flowers in place and create beautiful arrangements.

At our Seattle floral studio, we use natural materials like moss, chicken wire, water tubes, Agrawool, and Oshun pouches to create stunning and sustainable floral designs. We rent vases and structures to our clients for the majority of our events, so we can reuse them for future weddings. This also helps reduce the overall amount of waste created during the wedding.

We are proud to be a sustainable wedding florist in Seattle where protecting the environment is prioritized. By avoiding floral foam, we are doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the environment.

We take pride in running a sustainable business and continue to improve our practices all the time. By using local, seasonal flowers, composting green waste, and avoiding flower foam, we are taking steps to reduce our environmental impact. We are proud to be part of a growing movement of sustainable florists and hope to inspire others to do the same. We believe that by making small changes, we can make a difference in our community and create a more sustainable future.
