5 Must-Have Summer Blooms Growing in Seattle Right Now

Summer is the perfect time to get creative with your wedding flowers, and I'm excited to share some of my favorite summer blooms that are growing in Seattle right now. While every new season has something to offer in the flower world, summer produces some of our true favorites. Here’s a list of locally-grown flowers that you might find at your summer wedding.

1 / Cosmos

I love a lot of flower varieties, but cosmos are one of my true all-time favorites. I include them in designs whenever I can for movement and whimsy. These delicate, daisy-like flowers come in a variety of colors, from deep crimson to soft pink, and pure white. They make a perfect addition to any garden-y wedding flowers.

Cosmos are a great choice for Seattle weddings because they are native to the Pacific Northwest and thrive in our summer climate. We love designing with them in bouquets and centerpieces. I'm always excited to work with these beautiful blooms to create something truly unique for my clients.

2 / Zinnias

Another one of my favorite flowers to work with are zinnias. Zinnias come in a variety of colors, from bright yellow to deep red, and their petals are full and soft. They’re perfect for adding a pop of color to any bouquet or centerpiece, and I especially love how they look in a summer wedding. We love the queen lime series as well as others that come in various shapes and sizes. Zinnias are great in bouquets and centerpieces as well.

3 / Phlox

Phlox are delicate tiny blooms that thrive in the Pacific Northwest summer time. Phlox comes in a variety of colors, including pastels, brights, and neutrals. It's a perfect addition to any summer bouquet or centerpiece as a "floaty” flower that dances above the larger local flowers. Two of our favorite varieties are cherry caramel and creme brulee. Phlox looks great combined with other garden-style floral designs.

4 / Dahlias

Dahlias come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, making them a great choice for any summer wedding. We love dahlias as an alternative to relying heavily on roses as a focal flower. Dahlias come in nearly every color under the sun and bloom from mid to late summer through early fall. Dahlias are a classic wedding flower but can really be incorporated into any wedding floral style.

5 / Foxglove

This tall, dramatic bloom is a showstopper and it's growing in abundance in the Seattle area right now. Foxglove adds a unique texture to any bouquet, centerpiece, or installation. It's a great way to add some height and drama to your arrangements. Foxglove is a great line flower that can serve as an alternative to flowers like delphinium or snapdragons. (Not that we don’t love those guys too.)
